A HUGE jobs boost is today helping Ipswich fight back as a new supermarket prepares to open.

Around 200 jobs are available at the new Asda store on Stoke Park in the town which is due to open in August.

But before the doors can open for the first time there is the crucial matter of finding a team of staff.

Applications are now open for jobs at the new store in Stoke Park Drive and positions are available from shop floor staff to managers.

The store, has already received around 100 applications and interviews are due to begin in July.

Store people manager, Nick Johnson, is currently screening candidates and he anticipates a strong interest in the jobs from nearby residents.

He said: “We are screening all applications to ensure everybody has a fair opportunity with Asda.

“From today, we have also opened up vacancies for several managerial positions at the store and people interested should visit our recruitment centre or pop into Job Centre Plus for an application form.”

The managerial positions open include areas such as homewares and fresh food.

Mr Johnson added: “Asda colleagues have a reputation as being approachable, helpful and diligent and the number of applications we have already received shows that people want to work for Asda.

“A good Asda colleague isn't necessarily about qualifications or experience and is as much about being a friendly, outgoing people person who can offer our customers the friendliest and best service available.”

Anyone wanting to apply for a position at the new Asda store can either visit the recruitment centre at Berkeley Business Centre, in Fisons House, Princes Street, or ask at their local Job Centre Plus.
