A supervisor at a bar in Colchester has been removed by Essex Police after selling alcohol to underage and already intoxicated customers.

The designated premises supervisor at the Quayside Bar and Restaurant in Haven Road had been under investigation, before Colchester Borough Council made the decision at the licensing sub-committee on July 10.

Sue Richardson, Colchester town and licensing sergeant, said: “We are pleased with the positive outcomes following the joint work of Essex Police, Colchester Borough Council and Essex County Council child protection department.

“This is the first review in the Colchester district which has specifically looked at the licensing objective of protecting children from harm.

“The result sends out a clear message to all license holders that underage sales will not be tolerated and that out of town venues are subject to the same level of engagement as premises within the town centre.”
