A Felixstowe carer who stole jewellery from two women has been given a suspended prison sentence after a judge heard that she was undergoing surgery today to amputate her leg.
Sentencing Susan Ogden to an eight month prison sentence suspended for 12 months Judge Martyn Levett said he had decided to pass a suspended sentence after reading a medical report which said that 59-year-old Ogden’s “complex” physical needs following surgery could not be met in prison.
Ogden, of Cambridge Road, Felixstowe, admitted two offences of theft in 2016.
Nicholas Cooper, prosecuting, said Ogden stole jewellery worth £150 from one woman and £2,500 from the other.
He said the offences came to light when Ogden’s home was searched after one of the victims reported the theft of some of her jewellery.
Police recovered that woman’s property and also found jewellery belonging to another woman at Ogden’s home.
Christopher Paxton, for Ogden, said she was having surgery today to amputate her leg and suffered from long standing depression which had impacted on her judgement.
