A Suffolk National Trust site held an archaeology day for budding treasure hunters yesterday.
Children could try their hand at sand sieving or take part in a Young Archaeologists’ workshop at Sutton Hoo, near Woodbridge.
There was also an opportunity to meet the four metal detectorists who helped uncover the royal palace site at Rendlesham.
Many archaeological investigations over the last six years have revealed items that suggest high profile Anglo-Saxons lived at Rendlesham, and that 14 centuries ago the site was used for international trade.
Free entry to Sutton Hoo was offered to visitors who brought along archaeological finds for identification by Suffolk’s Senior Finds Recording Officer.
The event was held in conjunction with the Suffolk County Council Archaeological Service, which aims to educate the community of its heritage.
