A group of talented youngsters are set to hit the stage in Bury St Edmunds at Easter with their very own play – an adventure story for children.

The group of 15-25-year-olds have written, produced, designed, and marketed the play which they will perform at the Market Cross (previously Smiths Row Art Gallery) in the town.

The youngsters received support and guidance from professional theatre company Spinning Wheel Theatre and since last September the ‘Takeover Team’ has been working to completely produce their own show.

Spinning Wheel’s Youth Takeover allows young people to learn a huge range of skills within the creative arts – and to experience the diverse range of jobs that go into creating a show.

The brand new play is a fusion of The Famous Five and Stranger Things.

Budding writer Joseph Collings, 17, said: “It’s great. It’s a project which has given me confidence and been an excellent platform for making new friends and having fun. Definitely one of the best things to happen to me.”

Lucy Farrant, 21, who is creating the sound design for the show, said: “It’s such a wonderfully creative space. And so nice to be involved in the technical and design side of things, as I’ve only ever had the opportunity to act before.”

The Ill-Fated Four and the Cataclysmic Camping Trip will be performed at the Market Cross on April 13 at 4pm and April 14 at 11am and 3pm.

Tickets are priced at £5 and can be purchased at www.spinningwheeltheatre.com
