A TEENAGER was murdered in a re-creation of a scene from a horror movie, a court heard today.

Engineering student Simon Everitt, of Yarmouth, died in June after being tied to a tree and having petrol poured down his throat.

Karim Khalil QC, in opening the prosecution case, said it would “demonstrate the grotesque brutality that young people can inflict on one another.”

Jimi-Lee Stewart, 25, Maria Chandler, 40, and Jonathan Clarke, 19, all deny murder.

Mr Khalil said Mr Everitt and the two male defendants had all had a relationship with a woman, who was “playing off” each of them.

Jurors at Norwich Crown Court were shown a scene from the British horror film Severance in which a young man was shown tied to a tree. A man then threw petrol over him before setting his victim alight.

The court was told Clarke, of Telford, Shropshire, had watched the movie about a year before Mr Everitt was killed.
