The 18-year-old was outside the Bentley Towers Hotel in Norwich Road, Ipswich, at about 10.10pm on Monday when two males on BMX bikes boxed him in against a wall and threatened him with a screwdriver.
The victim handed over his white Sony Ericsson mobile phone and ran off.
The first male was mixed race, aged late teens and was wearing a modern style World War 2 RAF jacket that was brown leather with furry collar and cuffs, dark trousers and grey gloves.
The second male was similar to the first male but looked younger and was wearing a dark grey coloured hooded top with red markings on the chest area and dark trousers.
