A man grabbed a 13-year-old girl by the wrist during Stowmarket Carnival and tried to get her to leave with him.

The teenager had attended the event with friends on Saturday, July 8, and was walking to meet her mother around 2.45pm when she was approached by the man in the recreation ground at Finborough Road.

A spokeswoman for Suffolk Constabulary said the man had asked the victim to go with him and then took hold of her wrist, but the girl said no and walked away.

The assault was reported to police on Sunday, July 9.

The perpetrator is described as a white man who was wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses.

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information about the identity of the man to call Suffolk Constabulary on 101, quoting crime number 47380/17.

This year was the 56th Stowmarket Carnival and it carried a theme of ‘fairy tales’.
