Many of us may have struggled to shake off the duvet this morning, as temperatures in parts of the region officially dipped to -1C for the first time this autumn.

Chris Bell, forecaster for Weatherquest, said the chilly weather was a sign that summer had truly passed – but that’s not to say sunny spells are off the cards.

He said: “This was the first morning of the season that we have seen temperatures drop below freezing.”

The coldest temperature was recorded in Santon Downham in north-west Suffolk, where the mercury dipped to -1.1C.

Despite the morning chill, today should be fairly mild for the most part – with temperatures hitting 17 or 18C and high cloud making way for plenty of sun.

“Today certainly will be sunny,” Mr Bell said. “We are in a period now with high pressure over us. It will keep us dry over the coming week.”
