Reassurance has been given that off-street car parking charges in Tendring are not set to rise.
Fred Nicholls, Tendring corporate enforcement spokesman, responded to recent media reports which highlighted half of local authorities were considering such increases, in some cases of up to 45%.
He said there were no plans for an increase in parking fees in 2018-19, after no significant increase in the district over the past 10 years.
“This council decided in 2012 to make Tendring a car-friendly district, realising the importance of motorists to the prosperity of this area,” Mr Nicholls said at a cabinet meeting. “With initiatives such as the free parking permit for council tax paying households we are demonstrating our commitment to local businesses and in particular local high streets, throughout Tendring as well as our residents.
“We have good levels of business occupancy down in no small part to these motorists.”
Tendring manages off-street parking, while on-street parking is managed by North Essex Parking Partnership.
