A Tendring resident has won a competition to name a new retirement development in Frinton-on-Sea after researching the area’s history.

Monica Ding, who lives in Great Holland, was presented with a cheque for £100 at a naming ceremony for the Cooper Lodge development, in Pole Barn Lane.

She said: “I looked briefly into the history of the area and, as I did so, found out that in 1893 Sir Richard Powell Cooper purchased a huge part of Frinton land for development.

“The Cooper estate architects echoed his vision for Frinton which was preservation of social tone and buildings of good class. To name the new development after him felt a fitting tribute as Churchill aim to build similar good quality homes to which the Cooper estate aspired all those years ago.

“Equally as important, though, my late mother’s maiden name was also Cooper, so how fitting that I can be reminded of her by a name plaque for new homes which will be right on my doorstep.”

The development, which comes from Churchill Retirement Living, is currently under construction and will feature 40 private, self-contained apartments.
