Proud Ipswich residents past and present weighed in on their 101 favourite independent shops in the town.

The Facebook post on Ipswich Remembers has garnered a lot of attention over the last few days, with hundreds of comments celebrating all the businesses that make the town unique.

We have poured over the choices - and made a here are our top picks for a unique Ipswich shopping experience:

Maud’s Attic, St Peters Street

The cavernous, eclectic shop is full to the brim with all the furnishings to complete the look you’re looking for in your home.

Take the 360-degree tour on their Facebook page to get a real taste of the style, then head to St Peter’s Street to find your furnishings.

Best Days Vintage, Sailmakers shopping centre

With no two vintage items the same, you can take daily trips to Best Days and always find some new second-hand clothes.

Currently stocked with all the exotic shirts and bum bags you can carry for the festival season - once they’re gone, they’re gone!

Martins Bakery, Woodbridge Road

Traditional baking and delicious cakes make Martins a must-visit for any hungry Ipswich residents.

Plus, it’s right next to two other entries into the top 101 independent shops, Murton’s fruit and vegetables and Michael Morgan’s interiors.

The Lady Norfolk and Lord Rust, Queens Street

Vintage clothes and home furnishings in the very centre of Ipswich, this pop-up shop’s owners had such a good time that they moved in permanently.

With Bettie and Brigitte, the Lord and Lady’s two dogs, also lending a helping hand, the shopping experience here always fun and individual.

Coes, Norwich Road

With stores across East Anglia and the original flagship store in Ipswich, Coes have been dressing customers in formal wear since 1928.

Often the first port of call for first suits, wedding wear and the little touches to make an outfit special, the shop and name are synonymous with the area.

Twig, Kings Street

A lovely florist tucked right next to the Town Hall and Corn Exchange, Twig makes the best use of it’s central location by displaying it’s flowers on the street.

This is a perfect shop for special occasions and all the better for the local expert knowledge of the friendly, helpful staff.

Young’s Fish, Cornhill

Just around the corner is market vendor Young’s, an ideal stop at lunch to find out what you can have for dinner.

Seafood in a county with such a rich history in fishing is a treat other town’s do not get to enjoy, so it’s clear why they ended up on your list of top independent shops in Ipswich.

Out of Time Records, Fore Street

Lastly but not least, there’s just time to find something to unwind to in the evening.

Vinyl covers every wall in the shop, so you are sure to be able to pick yourself up a classic album and relax.
