A north Essex pub has been named the country’s best at an independent awards ceremony.
The Pheasant in Gestingthorpe was given the title of Britain’s Best Pub at the Sawday’s Awards.
A panel of judges chose the fine food pub and hotel for its commitment to local producers and the way owners Diana and James Donoghue have sympathetically renovated the venue since taking over in 2006.
Mr and Mrs Donoghue said: “We are so pleased to have won Sawday’s Pub of The Year 2014. This means so much to us, as we have worked so hard and put so much of our heart and soul into the Pheasant.”
Elli Constantatou, tourism marketing and PR manager for Visit Essex, said: “I am thrilled for the team at the Pheasant. This latest success and recognition is thoroughly deserved.”
