The Seagull Theatre, in Pakefield, near Lowestoft, was closed in July and faced being sold off after Suffolk County Council axed its funding.

But following a meeting between county council officials, the Save Our Seagull (SOS) campaign, Enterprise Lowestoft and Waveney MP Bob Blizzard, plans have been drawn up to keep the theatre open for performing arts.

A county council spokesman said last night: “Following a very positive meeting, the council has agreed to SOS working with the county's agents over the next four weeks to agree heads of terms. If agreement can be reached the council would sell the theatre to a group who would then lease it back to SOS.”
