AN OPPORTUNIST theft has left a disabled woman scared to go shopping after stealing her purse in broad daylight.
Evelyn Barnes, 82, was distracted by a man who bumped into her wheelchair in Bury St Edmunds before opening her bag to reach inside.
Mrs Barnes, who had travelled from her home in Mildenhall to get some shopping, said: “I am still shaken up about it.
“I have never had this done to me before. I am so careful but it happened anyway. I don't feel safe in Bury anymore.”
The pensioner said she had £100 in the purse when it was snatched.
The theft is thought to have happened around 11.10am last Saturday in the Bon Marche store on Cornhill. Anybody with information is asked to contact Pc Mark Ellis on 01284 774100.
