Police are warning lorry drivers after thieves targeted three trucks parked in Suffolk lay-bys - getting away with almost 3,000 pairs of trainers from one of the trailers involved.

Between 11.15pm on Wednesdayand 6.30am on Thursday the thieves struck at a lay-by on the eastbound stretch of A14 at Kentford. They cut seals to the lorry and took the hoard of 2,800 pairs of New Balance sports shoes, worth several thousand pounds.

The same gang is thought to have been behind an attempted break-in of a truck parked on the eastbound stretch of A14 at Rougham, near Bury St Edmunds, on the same night. The lock was cut from the container but nothing was taken.

And on the A1088 at Elmswell - also on Wednesday night - a lorry parked in a lay-by had its container seal cut away but the thieves fled empty handed.

Anyone offered bargain trainers or witnesses to any of the crimes should call police on 01284 774100 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
