A POSTMAN who stole mail has been told to expect a prison sentence.

Jason Backhouse pleaded guilty at Ipswich Crown Court to the theft of a quantity of postal packages belonging to Royal Mail between June 1 2007 and August 15, 2008.

The 38-year-old, from Colchester, admitted to the theft of 45 parcels on August 14 last year.

Backhouse was released from court on bail until the week beginning May 18 when he is due to be sentenced.

Judge John Holt said: “Custody will be high on the list of considerations”.

A pre-sentence report was ordered.
