The walk will take place on Saturday, October 6, and will start and finish at the Kingfisher Leisure Centre in Sudbury.

This year’s event is dedicated to the mum of one of the organisers, Jerry Thatcher, 71, who died just two weeks before the first walk in 2016.

Last year, Jerry walked 500 miles along the Camino trail in memory of his mum Kate and to raise awareness of dementia.

As well as taking part, this year people are also invited to share memories of their loved ones past and present to a memory tree, which can be found at Kingfisher Leisure Centre from October 5.

People do not have to be walking to add a memory to the tree.

Tracey Loynds, chief executive for South Suffolk Leisure, said: “We are delighted to be support this event for the third year. Working to become a dementia friendly business is important to us and our customers.

“Working with Jerry on the Sudbury Memory Walk has been so rewarding. As ever Care UK and Babergh District Council have played a huge part in making both this year and last year a huge success.”

Money raised from the event will go to Decaf Sudbury and Ansell Memories Cafe in Hadleigh, which both support those living with dementia and their carers.

People can choose to walk half a mile, one mile, three miles or five miles.

There will be seats and rest stations along the route.
