Celebrity gardeners, a beach set up in the middle of a shopping centre and a racing car simulator were among the varied attractions at this year’s “biggest ever” Whitsun Fayre, in Bury St Edmunds.

Organised by Ourburystedmunds, the free event, which this year celebrated its 20th anniversary, started as a flower and plant market.

Although it has now grown to include a broader range of entertainment, this year’s event returned to its gardening roots with a special stage set up outside Moyse’s Hall featuring celebrity gardeners Katie Rushworth from ITV’s Love Your Garden and Joe Swift from BBC Two’s Gardeners’ World.

Thousands of visitors enjoyed largely warm and fine weather during the two day event on Sunday and Monday. It proved a big draw for families, with children building sand castles at the ‘urban beach’ in the Traverse and trying out the fairground rides and games at the Arc.
