Three men have been arrested after an alleged assault in Clacton on Saturday afternoon.
The arrests came after a 44-year-old man was found in Beach Road who said he had been assaulted and robbed.
Two members of the public, who are believed to have tried to intervene, also suffered minor injuries after being assaulted.
Following subsequent police enquiries three men were arrested on suspicion of assault and robbery and were taken to Clacton police station for questioning.
They are a 24-year-old and a 20-year-old from Clacton and a 25-year-old of no given address.
DS Tim Coyles, of Clacton CID, said: “A number of people called us to report this incident and others also provided us with information when we arrived which allowed us to trace the suspects and make these arrests.
“I would like to publicly thank all those who gave us assistance and praise the actions of the two men who also tried to intervene.
