This week, I share with you a notice my husband read on Liverpool Street Station. Needless to say, he did not avail himself of the alternative facilities.

Meanwhile I am happy to report that help may be at hand for the sweats. Hilary Gaskin emailed: “I can so relate to your suffering. Just thought I’d let you know that I have been taking sage tablets, and they are superb for relieving the night sweats.”

I asked Hilary if chewing a few fresh purple sage leaves (so decorative on the patio) from the garden might work and she suggested making tea with them.

And to think that I’d only ever used them for stuffing.
