THE Conservatives won a seat from the BNP in thes week's crop of local government by-elections. Labour's vote in the ward in Broxstowe, Nottinghamshire, fell by 22.9%.
Press Association analysis of 18 by-elections over this month, including the Commons contest at Norwich North, suggests a projected 11.1% Tory lead over Labour.
A calculation based on 11 wards fought both times by all three main parties gives a line-up of Conservative 42.2%, Labour 27.8%, and Liberal Democrat 20.1%.
