A mid-Suffolk resident has spoken of the "surreal" moment she spotted a tornado as she drove through the county this evening (Tuesday).

Matthew Brown was driving his partner Emma Cobbold along the B1333 between Old Newton and Bacton when she saw the funnel cloud across the fields.

“We were not sure at first but when we saw a few others cars pulling over we did too to have a look,” said Emma, 26.

“It was really strange and surreal – and odd, not the sort of thing you expect to see in Suffolk.

“Before I started filming you could see it a lot better, it had hit the ground. I only caught the end of it on camera.

“It was a few fields away, maybe 300 yards, and we felt safe.

“It was quite exciting to see, gave me a bit of adrenaline.

“I’ve never seen a tornado in the flesh before, only in films and on the TV.”

Emma, from Old Newton, added: “It was over before we knew it, and probably only lasted a few minutes.”

The tornado was spotted around 6pm.
