AN HISTORIC town could miss out on thousands of visitors because transport bosses have ordered the removal of signs used to encourage tourists, it has been claimed.
Contractors working for the Highways Agency realised the large brown heritage signs advertising Colchester will have to come down because they no longer meet safety requirements.
But yesterday the town's MP, Bob Russell, slammed the loss as "outrageous" and said he would raise the issue with Transport Secretary Alistair Darling.
