A PENSIONER has been taken to hospital after his vehicle was involved in a crash on a busy roundabout in Bury St Edmunds.

The accident happened on Compiegne Way at the roundabout with the British Sugar factory at 10.15am.

Petrol and oil was spilled out onto the road following the crash, with the road still partially closed at 12.15pm as emergency services clean it up.

A green Suzuki Wagon lost control at the junction with the sugar beet factory, leaving an elderly man requiring hospital treatment.

Firefighters were also called to the scene to deal with the spillage.

The accident was the only one in Suffolk since 9.30am, after Suffolk police experienced a hectic morning attending traffic collisions due to icy conditions.
