Festival goers faced long delays on the road approaching Hylands Park, in Chelmsford, following a car fire.
Due to a car fire underneath the A12 at junction 15, entry to Three Mile Hill was blocked at about 12.45pm.
Essex Police officers were sent to manage the scene, with Essex County Fire and Rescue working to put out the blaze.
The closure was expected to last at least an hour.
People considering driving to V Festival, at Hylands Park, were advised to find an alternative route, if possible.
