Motorists have been caught in traffic delays in the centre of Ipswich after a woman collapsed on a busy bridge on the waterfront.

Police were called shortly before 3pm today with reports that a woman had collapsed on Stoke Bridge, on Bridge Street.

The casualty had fallen into the carriageway, blocking one lane and causing severe traffic delays stretching back to Wherstead Road.

A spokesperson for Suffolk police said officers blocked off the road to attend to the casualty, who was left in the care of the ambulance service. Her condition is unknown at this time.

The spokesperson advised that there may still be some delays in the area, however officers are hoping to have the road cleared soon.
