SERVICES to and from London on the East Anglia main line have been severely disrupted after a train hit a person at Witham this afternoon.

The 14:00 from Norwich to Liverpool Street, which had called at Diss, Stowmarket, Ipswich, and Colchester hit an individual in the vicinity of Witham station.

All services were immediately cancelled. Trains to London are being curtailed at Colchester and services from London are being turned around at Chelmsford.

A spokesman for One Railways said replacements bus services were in operation between the two Essex towns and delays of 90 minutes or more could be expected.

Although One hopes to resume through trains to and from the capital by teatime, there could be a knock on effect for the evening peak period.
