FRIENDS and colleagues have paid tribute to the Mayor of Colchester, Peter Crowe, who died yesterday after a long illness.
Mr Crowe, 72, represented Birch and Winstree ward at the town hall for 18 years and was elected as mayor in May.
After losing his long battle with cancer, tributes in memory of his dedicated service as a member of Colchester Borough Council and successful local businessman flooded in.
All sent their condolences to his wife, Mayoress Margaret Fairley-Crowe, and his family.
Honorary Alderman David Cannon, Mayor of Colchester from 1998 to 1999, said: “He was an absolute gentleman, right to the soles of his feet.
“What makes it all the more tragic is that he had always looked forward to being mayor, and he had always held the mayoralty in very high regard.”
