A tree has fallen on a car and a house after heavy winds caused chaos on Suffolk’s roads last night and this morning.
Workers from Suffolk County Council were called to the scene in St Martin’s Green, Trimley St Martin at about 7.30am today.
It is not believed anyone was injured. Damage to the car and house is not yet known.
It comes after late-night drivers and early-morning commuters faced difficult driving conditions as strong gusts assailed the county’s roads, with wind speeds clocking 45mph in some areas.
The worst of the wind was experienced between 5am-7am today, Weatherquest forcecaster Steve Western said.
But he added motorists can expect better travelling conditions with winds set to return to normal speeds today and this week.
“There were no gales last night but there were strong winds,” he said.
“But they will come down to 3-5mph today and we won’t be experiencing the same strength of wind like last night or this morning for the rest of the week.”
