NEWCASTLE collected their third item of major silverware this season by overcoming Edinburgh to lift the Premier League Knockout Cup.

The Diamonds had already won the Premier Trophy and the Premier League play-offs but were taken down to the final race of a dramatic Final by the league champions.

Edinburgh held a slender five-point lead from their home leg but kept in touch throughout and led by a point on aggregate with three heats to go.

However, Kenni Larsen and guest Stuart Robson secured a vital 5-1 over Ryan Fisher in Heat 13, and the Diamonds maintained their three-point lead over the last two races with Larsen and Rene Bach holding Kalle Katajisto at bay in Heat 15 with the Monarchs requiring a 5-1.

Newcastle boss George English said: “This has been the most fantastic season for the Diamonds, and the success has been thoroughly deserved. It’s been a magnificent night here tonight - one of the best!”
