A rescue crew’s training was put to the test when a boat was pinned by the fast-flowing tide against a bridge over the River Blyth.

Southwold Lifeboat Station received a call from Humber coastguard operations centre on Monday afternoon, reporting a motor sailor in distress with one person on board.

The boat was pinned against the footbridge linking Southwold with Walberswick over the river.

The person on board was helped to safety by the harbourmaster before the lifeboat crew arrived to recover the boat.

On Facebook, Southwold Lifeboat Station said the rescue had been a “true test of training”.
