A turtle dove campaigner from Bury St Edmunds will be talking about his work at a meeting in the town next week.

Jonny Rankin has raised more than £15,000 for Operation Turtle Dove since 2012 by tracking on foot, bike and by kayak the migratory route of this iconic bird from Suffolk to Spain.

Mr Rankin will speak at the forthcoming Bury Water Meadows Group open meeting at the Quaker Meeting House in St John’s Street on Thursday, June 21 at 7pm.

Andrew Hinchley, chairman of Bury Water Meadows Group, said: “Jonny Rankin can be celebrated as someone in the local community who has helped open our eyes to the fantastic wildlife in our neighbourhood, as well as working to make people aware of where our wildlife faces enormous challenges - from Bury to North Africa. We are delighted he is coming to tell us about his efforts to conserve turtle doves.”

Admission is free to members, £3 to non-members.
