The latest deaths bring the total number of people killed on the county's roads this year to 21.

At around 5.20pm yesterday afternoon, the driver of a blue Fiat Punto was killed after his vehicle crashed into a ditch on Lower Road in Somersham.

The male victim, 25, believed to be from the local area was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services.

The road was re-opened at about 10.30pm after the Highways Agency removed debris from the scene.

The second incident happened in north Suffolk yesterday morning, on the A144 at Bramfield.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the accident on the main Halesworth to Bramfield road shortly after 9.37am.

The male driver of the red Toyota car, which crashed into a tree, near to the level crossing, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said he was believed to have been heading from Halesworth towards the A12.

The road was closed for more than three hours and re-opened at 1pm.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the accidents to call 01473 613500.

In a separate incident in the area yesterday the woman driver of a red Vauxhall Corsa escaped uninjured after losing control of her car and flipping the vehicle onto its roof.

Police were called at about 9.44am to the accident near to The Roundhouse restaurant off the A12 at Thorington, near Halesworth.

Paramedics also attended the scene, but the woman was not injured during the incident.

The two fatalities are the latest in a series of tragic accidents recently which have claimed the lives of several young people.

On Friday Danny Lupson, 18, died when the car in which he was a back seat passenger left the road, hit a tree and overturned at Yaxley near Eye.

Brother and sister, Oliver and Donna Read were killed when the Audi A3 Turbo she was driving hit a lamppost and a wall in West Bergholt near Colchester.

Both were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on the B1508 Colchester Road less than a mile from their home in New Church Road, West Bergholt at around 11.30pm on Monday.
