AN investigation has been launched into two fires that broke out at a council depot in Essex last night.

AN investigation has been launched into two fires that broke out at a council depot in Essex last night.

The incident took place at an Essex County Council depot in Colchester Road, Chelmsford, at about 9.45pm.

The first fire affected a large building at the depot while the second caused damage to up to four lorries parked nearby.

An Essex County Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “Initially two appliances were sent to deal with the incident, but because of the number of calls received by control operators, an additional appliance was ordered to the scene.”

Two crews from Chelmsford and a third from nearby Baddow were involved in the operation and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels and one main jet to tackle the flames, which were fully extinguished by 11pm.
