COLCHESTER United have announced that they have parted company with the security firm which provided stewards for U's home games at their new stadium.

Zephyr Security has supplied the stewards for the first four games of this season at the Weston Homes Community Stadium as well as for the entire of the club's last season at Layer Road.

The move into the new stadium has had many teething problems - the kickoff for the second home game of the season against Oldham was delayed because of crowd congestion even though the ground was only half full and the new turnstile system has caused queues outside the ground.

Although not directly linked to Zephyr, the way the ground has been stewarded has been much maligned by home fans.

Keith Turner, Colchester United operations manager, said: “As well as the importance of stadium security knowledge, we feel that the public relation aspects and customer relationships have to be equally important in managing the security of the stadium.

“We are now involved in talking to various agencies with a view to securing a partnership in time for the next home game against Leicester City.”
