A local resident said they felt ‘intimidated’ as what started as eight caravans rapidly grew to 30 on the pitch off Mill Road.
Up to 30 caravans believed to be travellers arrived at Colchester Rugby Club along Mill Road earlier today, July 2.
A resident living nearby, who did not want to be named, said there were about eight to 14 caravans at first, but that rapidly grew to 30.
They claimed the travellers broke onto the site through the side gate on Mill Road.
The resident said: “Within 10 minutes they were set up and roaring up and down the pitches.
“The council must take some responsibility for securing the site.
“Local children and residents are all very wary, it’s quite an intimidating situation to be faced with on your doorstep.”
