Weathermen have today issued a yellow warning that severe storms and torrential rain are heading for Suffolk over the Bank Holiday.
The Met Office said the warning would be in place from midnight with thunderstorms likely to occur on and off through to around 6am on Monday.
A spokesman said: “Whilst many areas will see small amounts of rain a few locations may see some very large totals with 30mm possible within an hour and perhaps up to 80mm in three hours. Along with this hail and thunder are likely as well as some locally strong gusts.”
The experts say that some areas could miss the storms altogether but where they do arrive people should be prepared for some heavy rain – even flooding.
The spokesman added: “Flooding of homes and businesses could happen quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.
“Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures and some communities might become cut off if roads flood.”
Temperatures tomorrow are expected to reach highs of around 23C inland and – once the rain has passed – up to 26C on Monday.
It is expected to be a warm but mixed week with temperatures in the low 20sC with rain at times.
