The fire brigade had to cut a casualty out of a vehicle after a serious crash on the A12.

It happened around 5.40pm on the northbound carriageway between J18 for the A414 and J19 for the A138.

The crash involved a car and a lorry and it is believed one of the vehicles was stationary at the time of the incident.

Congestion at one stage was backing up to J15 (Three Mile Hill) with the road completely closed to allow the firefighters to work.

They used specialist cutting equipment to free the casualty who was out of the vehicle by 6.19pm. Ambulance crews were on the scene by 6.10pm.
