A crash between two lorries on the A12 south of Chelmsford caused long delays during the morning rush hour.
The incident happened between junction 17 for the A130 and junction 16 at Galleywood.
Traffic on the A12 queued back for miles as Essex Police advised motorists to avoid the area.
The road was reopened at around 11.25am.
