Fire crews have managed to contain a blaze which took hold of a wooden vessel in a large boatyard.
The call was received just before 6.40pm to the fire in the St Osyth Boat Yard in Mill Street.
On arrival crews found the 36-foot long fishing boat, called Tranquillity, to be “100% alight”.
The owner of the boatyard, Andy Harman, said it was “very fortunate” none of the other 50 vessels were not involved in the blaze.
“We are very fortunate where the boat was moored up and that it was not moored alongside other boats which could have caught fire. It was quite a spectacle - the top of the boat is all burnt off. The firemen came down and did a wonderful job and put it out in a pretty quick time.”
He said firefighters, who came from Clacton and Weeley, had put out the blaze by about 7.30pm.
