A section of the beach in Dunwich, which was cordoned off by police earlier today after a suspected unexploded bomb washed ashore, has been reopened.
The discovery of the device on the shore in front of Dingle marshes, Dunwich, was reported to Suffolk police by the Environment Agency just after 12.10pm.
This afternoon, a Suffolk police spokeswoman said officers were at the scene awaiting the arrival of the bomb disposal team. Although there were no houses in the vicinity, the area was cordoned off as a precaution.
However it has now been confirmed that bomb disposal experts are satisfied the device is an old mortar shell and poses no threat to safety.
