The quake was felt in Ludlow and Church Stretton at 1.15pm today.

According to the British Geological Survey, the quake measured 2.5 on the Richter Scale.

A statement on the organisation’s website said the earthquake occured at 12.16pm, with a depth of 14km.

Earthquakes with a magnitude of around 2.0 are equivalent to a large quarry or mine blast, and are usually recorded but not felt by people.

The two major earthquakes that struck northern Italy earlier this month were more than twice the size of the one in Ludlow.

No injuries have been reported in relation to today’s quake and many local people were unaware of the event.
