FIREFIGHTERS were last night dealing with the aftermath of a barn blaze near Battisford.

Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service were alerted to the fire in Charles Tye just after 2.40pm yesterday.

Flames that had engulfed a building and a barn, built from steel and wood, were doused by 4.21pm.

Fuel and diesel tanks, believed to be empty, and six vehicles were discovered in the building.

It is believed gas and oxy-acetylene cylinders were also in the building.

A Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said the vehicles and workshop equipment had been “well alight”.

Firefighters were last night using thermal imaging cameras to identify hotspots and determine the extent of the damage.

A crew from Stowmarket and another from Needham Market were initially mobilised to the scene before requesting back-up.

Two further crews were sent along with a command unit and support appliance from Ixworth.
