A MAN has died after the car he was driving was involved in a collision with a lorry on the A11 between Barton Mills and Elveden.
Police, fire and ambulance were called to the two-vehicle road traffic collision at about 2.10pm today.
The collision was between a black Mercedes car and a white DAF truck.
The driver of the car was released from the vehicle by the fire service and seen to by paramedics, but he died at the scene.
The driver of the lorry has been taken to West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds with suspected spinal injuries.
The A11 has been closed in both directions between the Five Ways roundabout at Barton Mills and the B1112 while police carry out an accident investigation and recovery of the vehicles takes place.
It is likely that the road will be closed for a number of hours. Diversions are in place.
An ambulance service spokeman said: “The man was pronounced dead at the scene and our thoughts are with those affected by this sad incident.
“He became trapped in his car and subsequently died from crush injuries despite extensive work from our crews to save his life. The lorry driver also suffered minor injuries and was transported to West Suffolk General.”
Anyone who witnessed this collision should contact the Serious Collision Investigation Team at Suffolk Police on 101.
