Police in Suffolk were advising people to use a different phone number to report crime after the loss of service nationally for the non-emergency contact number 101.
While the problem was being resolved, members of the public who needed to contact Suffolk police with non-urgent matters were given another number to call.
Essex Police reported at around 1.50pm that the service was up-and-running again after a technical fault occurred.
