A 23-year-old woman who died after a collision in Bury St Edmunds this morning has been named by police.

The emergency services were called to Compiegne Way at about 12:35am after receiving reports that a silver Vauxhall Astra had left the road.

The ambulance service treated the male driver who had an arm injury. The 23-year-old female passenger was found unconscious at the scene and was taken to West Suffolk Hospital where she later died.

The woman has been formally identified and named as Vivienne Bickerton, of Walnut Tree Way, Cambridge.

There were no other passengers in the car.

The road was closed while collision investigators assessed the scene, and diversions were put in place.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to call the Bury St Edmunds roads policing unit on 101.
