Police say there is a “strong possibility” the body found on Felixstowe beach today is one of the Albanian immigrants who jumped from a Harwich passenger ferry last month.
A spokesman for Suffolk Constabulary said officers were not ruling out other possibilities but considered it likely that the body was one of the two men who jumped from the Stena Britannica on February 26.
Police were contacted by a member of the public just after 12.30pm reporting there was a body on the beach near Buregate Road, which appeared to have been in the water for some time.
The body is believed to be that of a man. Police are making efforts to identify him and have found a quantity of euro currency in his pockets.
Suffolk Constabulary is liaising with police in Essex following the find.
