Community leaders today announced they will be working with the Ipswich and Suffolk Indian Association after today’s Indian Summer Mela was cancelled.

The celebration had to be cancelled after torrential downpours on Saturday night resulted in pools of water across Christchurch Park.

A spokesman for Ipswich Borough Council said they will be discussing a possible new date for the event.

Meanwhile, hundreds of people have crammed into the grounds of Christchurch Mansion to cheer on Andy Murray in the Wimbledon final against Roger Federer.

There were fears this morning that the big screen might have to be cancelled but it has gone ahead.
