A busy road near Ipswich has been reopened after a serious crash this morning.

Police and paramedics were called to the A137, close to Jimmy’s Farm at Wherstead, at about 9am after a car came off the road and into a field, colliding with a tree.

The East Anglian Air Ambulance were called and arrived at the scene at 9.28am.

A spokeswoman for the charity said crews airlifted the woman, who is believed to be from north Essex, to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge at 10.22am.

She said the woman suffered pelvic and leg injuries and her condition is thought to be life-threatening.

Fire crews were called to the scene and hydraulic cutting gear was used to release the woman from the vehicle.

The road was closed while police investigated the scene and it was reopened at 1.15pm.
